Tommy Ivo Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography, How much money make? In addition to being an actor, Tommy Ivo (born April 18, 1936, in Denver, Colorado), better known as “TV Tommy” and “Instant Ivo,” is a former drag racer who was prominent in the racing scene throughout the 1960s. He raced a dual (side by side) Buick nailhead-engined dragster in the late 1950s, and he is credited with becoming the first gasoline-powered dragster to break the nine-second barrier. The vehicle set the Drag News AA/GD et record with an 8.69-second run. The Twin Buick was also the first gas dragster to achieve speeds of 170, 175 and 180 mph, all of which were Standard 1320 records at the time of their accomplishment.  It had a distinctive look and won a number of events, including NASCAR’s inaugural National Drag Race, before being retired. The next year, he built a four-engined, four-wheel-drive dragster he dubbed Showboat (with a quartet of Nailheads), but the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) decided it was the first “exhibition” dragster and he was thus ineligible to compete it. From 1959 through 1961, Ivo played Herbie Bailey in the ABC comedy The Donna Reed Show, which aired on the network. He appeared as a guest star in an episode of the syndicated adventure television series Rescue 8 as well as in two episodes of the children’s television series Leave It To Beaver.  The ABC/Warner Brothers western series Sugarfoot, as well as the NBC western series The Tall Man, both included guest appearances by him. Ivo appeared in another ABC comedy, Margie, during the 1961-1962 season, in which he portrayed the character of Haywood Botts. In 1963, he had an appearance on the television programme “Petticoat Junction” in the episode “Honeymoon Hotel.” At San Gabriel Drag Strip in 1963, Ivo’s Barnstormer (a nitro-burning 392 Hemi-powered slingshot) became one of only two seven-second Top Fuel diggers, prompting him to stage a Seven Second Match Race against the other, a Greer Black Prudhomme car driven by Don Prudhomme, to determine who was the better driver.  (Prudhomme was victorious.) As part of the First International Drag Festival in 1964, Ivo travelled to England alongside Don Garlits and other racers, including Tony Nancy, Bob Keith, Dante Duce and others. The First International Drag Festival was a six-event series that did much to popularise drag racing in the United Kingdom.
