Jon P. McGlocklin (born June 10, 1943) is a former professional basketball player from Franklin, Indiana, who was born in the United States. The Cincinnati Royals selected McGlockin in the third round of the 1965 NBA Draft, but he is best remembered for his eight-year (1968–1976) stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, with whom he won an NBA Championship (along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson) in 197McGlockin was a sharpshooting 6’5″ guard out of Indiana University. In his NBA career, he amassed a total of 9,169 points, and the Milwaukee Bucks have honoured him by retiring his #14 jersey. In addition, he made an appearance in the 1969 NBA All-Star Game. When it came to jump shots, McGlocklin was most renowned for his high-arcing “rainbow” jumpers from the wing, which he would take from what would now be three-point territory. It was most effective when McGlocklin was paired with Jabbar in a two-man play: if the opposing guard fell back to double-team Jabbar, McGlocklin would make them pay from the perimeter; when the guard came out to defend him, he would pass the ball down to Jabbar with only one defender, who was usually outmatched in most situations. Besides being named one of the “Top 50 Basketball Players” of the twentieth century in his native state of Indiana, McGlocklin was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, and the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, among other honours. McGlocklin has worked as a part of the Bucks’ television announcing crew, with Jim Paschke, for the last 25 years.
