Gad Saad was born in the Lebanese capital of Beirut in 196During the Lebanese civil war, his family fled to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in October 1975 in order to escape the savagery. Distinguished Professor of Marketing at the John Molson School of Business, Saad is an evolutionary behavioural scientist and expert in marketing strategy (Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada). The Concordia University Research Chair in Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences and Darwinian Consumption, which he has held since 2008, has been awarded to him. A few months ago, he was named an advising fellow at the Center for Inquiry in Boston. Professor Saad writes a blog for Psychology Today called Homo Consumericus, which has attracted more than 2.75 million readers as of April 20, 2014, according to the most recent statistics. Much of Saad’s research has taken place at the confluence of evolutionary psychology and consumer behaviour, which has been the focus of his work for the last 15 years or more. Erlbaum published his book The Evolutionary Bases of Consumption in 2007, and Prometheus Books published his book The Consuming Instinct: What Juicy Burgers, Ferraris, Pornography, and Gift Giving Reveal About Human Nature (Prometheus Books, 2011). He also serves as the editor of Evolutionary Psychology in the Business Sciences (Erlbaum, 2007). (Springer, 2011). A special issue of the journal Futures (Elsevier, 2011) exploring potential futures of evolutionary psychology spanning a broad variety of disciplines was guest edited by him as well as by other colleagues.
