Eric Fehrnstrom is a former journalist and political strategist who served as a key assistant to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney during his campaign for the 2012 presidential election in the United States. He is the founder and principal of the Shawmut Group, a communications consulting organisation with headquarters in Boston. As the strategist for US Senator Scott Brown, Fehrnstrom was in charge of the advertisements that catapulted Brown to victory in the 2010 Special Election to replace Ted Kennedy. This included the “Truck” commercial, which helped to build Brown’s popular image as a “ordinary person.” Another advertisement included black-and-white film video of President John F. Kennedy discussing tax cuts while morphing into the character of Brown. During the presidential campaign, Fehrnstrom engaged in regular Twitter sparring with David Axelrod, a major advisor to President Barack Obama, and other political figures.
