In 1963, Douglas Robert Gilmour (born June 25, 1963) became the first Canadian to play in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is now the general manager of the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). For the National Hockey League (NHL), he played for the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres, and Montreal Canadiens over the course of 20 seasons. Gilmour was selected by the Blues in the seventh round (134th overall) in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He played in 1,474 games in the NHL between 1983 and 2003, with 1,414 points. He was a part of Calgary’s 1989 Stanley Cup winning squad and was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL’s finest defensive forward in 1992–9He has been named to two NHL All-Star teams. In international competition, he represented Canada three times throughout his career, and he was a part of the country’s championship Canada Cup squad in 198The moniker “Killer” was given to Gilmour because of his physical style of play, despite his diminutive size. He played three seasons of junior hockey with the Cornwall Royals, where he was a part of the squad that won the Memorial Cup in 1981 and helped them to the title. Gilmour was awarded the most outstanding player in the Ontario Hockey League in 1982–83 after scoring 177 points, which was one of the best totals in the league’s history. Following his playing career, Gilmour returned to the OHL, where he joined the Frontenacs as head coach in 2008 before being elevated to general manager the following season.
