The late Robert Joseph “Bob” Cousy (born August 9, 1928) was a former professional basketball player from the United States. For the Boston Celtics from 1950 through 1963, Cousy was the starting point guard. He also spent a short time with the Cincinnati Royals during the 1969–70 season. While playing for his high school’s varsity basketball team during his junior year, Cousy made his first public demonstration of his basketball skills.
He received a basketball scholarship at the College of the Holy Cross, where he led the Crusaders to bids in the 1948 and 1950 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournaments, as well as being named an NCAA All-American for three seasons during his time there. Cousy was originally selected by the Tri-Cities Blackhawks as the third overall selection in the first round of the 1950 NBA Draft. However, after refusing to report to the team, he was acquired by the Boston Celtics.
