Robert E. “Bob” Braun (April 20, 1929 – January 15, 2001) was a Cincinnati, Ohio-based television and radio personality. He was born in the Kentucky town of Ludlow. He was well known for hosting The Bob Braun Show from 1967 until 198The show was the Midwest’s highest-rated live entertainment/information programme. The daily 90-minute programme, which originated at WLWT and was broadcast across America’s heartland, included a live band, singers, and special guests such as Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Johnny Carson, Paul Lynde, Red Skelton, Phyllis Diller, Tom Dressen, and Dick Clark. Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, John Glenn, and Ted Kennedy were among the politicians that attended.
The 50-50 Club was succeeded by The Bob Braun Show on local television. Ruth Lyons, the show’s host, retired in 1967 owing to ill health. Braun has been a regular guest on the programme since 1957, and he was often a stand-in presenter. During the Christmas season, Braun promoted and supported Lyons’ charity, “The Ruth Lyons Christmas Fund,” on his own programme. (The Ruth Lyons Children’s Fund, now known as “The Ruth Lyons Children’s Fund,” is still in existence.) The programme was renamed Braun and Company towards the conclusion of its run. Rob Reider, Mary Ellen Tanner, Nancy James, baritone Mark Preston (of The Lettermen), and announcer/weatherman Bill Myers were regular cast members on The Bob Braun Show. Ron Pataky, an entertainment reviewer for a Columbus, Ohio newspaper, came to Cincinnati every Friday between 1970 and 1975 to analyse which movies were debuting that weekend on the programme.
